ORCA

Easily identified by its tall dorsal fin and black and white markings, the orca is the largest dolphin species. Ranging from the equator to the poles, its diet includes fish, seals, penguins and other whales. Johnstone Strait, between Vancouver Island and the British Columbian mainland is one of the best places in the world to see orca – particularly in late summer when they follow the salmon run. Orca also gather hunt herring along the Snaefellsnes Peninsula of Iceland during the winter months of February and March.
