Kaikoura attracts New Zealand’s largest concentration and variety of seabirds, including 13 species of albatross, 14 varieties of petrel and seven types of shearwater. Among the ‘great albatrosses’ are wandering, Antipodean, Gibson’s, northern royal and southern royal. The smaller albatrosses – or mollymawks – include the black-browed, shown here fighting for scraps from fishing boats.
